Chamomile & Lemon Balm
Sleepy-time Tea
Ease into restful sleep with this soothing herbal infusion. Chamomile and lemon balm are gentle nervines known to calm the mind, ease digestive discomfort, and support a peaceful night’s rest. Perfect for winding down at the end of a long day.
Ingredients
(Makes 1 cup)
1 tsp dried Chamomile flowers (Matricaria chamomilla)
1 tsp dried Lemon balm leaves (Melissa officinalis)
Optional: ¼ tsp dried Lavender flowers (Lavandula angustifolia) for extra relaxation
Optional: A touch of raw honey or a slice of lemon, to taste
Instructions
Add the chamomile and lemon balm (and lavender, if using) to a teapot or infuser.
Pour over 250ml (1 cup) of freshly boiled water.
Cover and steep for 10–15 minutes to allow the essential oils and active compounds to infuse.
Strain and sip slowly about 30 minutes before bed.
Tips
Covering your tea while it steeps helps keep in the delicate volatile oils that support relaxation.
Drink in a quiet space, with dim lighting and no screens, to reinforce your bedtime routine.
Using Fresh Herbs
If you have fresh herbs from your garden, that’s even better! Use roughly 2 to 3 teaspoons of chopped fresh herbs for every one teaspoon of dried herbs for every one teaspoon of dried. Fresh lemon balm, in particular, has a beautiful, bright, lemony note that pairs wonderfully with chamomile.
To use:
Pick just before use for the best potency.
Gently bruise the leaves with your fingers to help release their oils.
Steep for slightly longer, about 15–20 minutes, to fully extract their benefits.
